Welcome to 2014 friends! The good news is that there were both less scammers and less foreign teachers in 2013, the latter of which justifies a 20% pay increase for those of you who remained in China. You deserve it but it is up to you to demand it when your new contract comes up for renewal. There were 12% less teacher complaints in 2013 than in 2012 - and for this we have YOU to thank for this achievement. The bad news is that our membership only grew 7% in 2013. We now have 6,207 CFTU members China-wide. The CFTU received over 340 tips in 2013 and of the 172 we were able to investigate 67 of them were scams. We alerted our membership, the public, and the police. Now 41 of those scams are no longer operating. 16 scam agents were arrested in Beijing and 12 in Shanghai, and 3 in Guangzhou. This is the magic we can work together to clean up our teaching community in Beijing, so keep the feedback coming - we take action whenever possible.
